Marian Fortunati November Art Newsletter

As amazing as it seems, this year is drawing to a close. Halloween has passed and Thanksgiving is almost here. I hope that all of you have plans to do something enjoyable with family and friends in the coming days and weeks. Our family's Thanksgiving feast will be a bit different this year since two of our older children will be spending time out of LA with their respective spouse's families. The rest of us will gather locally. Since we enjoy magnificent feasts on a regular basis thanks to my husband, Gastone's, talent as a gourmet chef, we may just go to our local club for their Thanksgiving buffet. After all - the season is all about being together and taking a minute to appreciate all we have enjoyed throughout the year.

Tyler, our 9 year old, (in the red shirt) is enjoying 4th grade at his local elementary school. The entire fourth grade and their families were invited to a "Meet Me There" field trip called "Gemorama".  Rocks and minerals are part of the fourth grade curriculum, so they had fun while still learning about the world around them. Luckily for Tyler, a friend's family included him in their outing because Gastone and I couldn't go. They drove up to Trona, in the California desert, and dug in the mud and minerals for Halite crystals.... essentially very pretty and amazing salt crystals. It was certainly a wonderful experience for all of the children (and their brave parents).

Although Gastone continues to travel to Washington State to work on the house up there, we really haven't done any major traveling this season. However, our daughter, son-in-law and my Dad are going to join us in December on a cruise to the Hawaiian Islands. That should be fun.  I'll share more about that next month.

"Palette Knife Pumpkins"                              "Fall Lineup"

I've been very busy painting. Although I paint mostly landscapes, I also try some figurative work and some still life work... I enjoy challenging myself with new subjects and new styles - like the two very different pumpkin paintings I did above.  (All colored and underlined words are links which can be "clicked" to see additional information.)  I like to share my work and I've been very fortunate to be included in some exciting shows.

Recent Show:
I hold the California Art Club as a sort of benchmark for quality artwork,
so I was pleased in October to have one of my paintings juried in to the SoPas Gallery as part of the California Art Club / South Pasadena "City Of Trees" exhibit.

The show, which has now closed, featured the work of Associate Artists (like me) as well as Artists and Signature Artists of the Club. My painting was in good company and was placed right next to a painting done by a friend whom I had met while blogging. Her name is Leslie Saeta and she does beautiful oils painted with a palette knife.

The weekend of December 4, 5 and 6 is a very EXCITING WEEKEND for me. Here's why:

I am honored to have been juried in to each of these shows. Each is special in its own way.

Of course, as I mentioned before, The California Art Club is my benchmark group. The jurors for this show were Karl Dempwolf and Michael Obermeyer, who are both fabulous and well known landscape artists, so I'm doubly thrilled to be included in the California Art Club show!

I would love to see you at any of these receptions. You might even enjoy making an evening outing out of one of these events by going out for dinner before or after visiting the exhibition. The California Art Club Show teams up with the Women's City Club to offer a delicious dinner with music following the reception.  My family and I are staying for the dinner after the reception, and would love to chat with you if you'd like to join us.

Ongoing Shows:
I still have work showing at the La Galeria Gitana "Sacred Art - All Things Spiritual" in San Fernando, CA, at the Richeson Gallery "Landscape, Seascape and Architecture" Exhibit in Wisconson, and and on line at ArtKUDOS.com through the end of the year.

Upcoming Event:
At the end of this month I'll be submitting work to the San Fernando Valley Art Club's show at VIVA Gallery for a Show called "VIVA L'Art".   I don't know if my work will be juried in, but either way, I'm sure there will be plenty of wonderful work to see, so try to make it by the gallery.   That show will run from November 25 through December 12th.   The reception will be Sunday, November 29, 2009 from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m.

Blogging
If any of you ever want to know what I've been up to, I make frequent blog posts where I talk about my art and life in general.  I always post a recent study or studio piece... sometimes showing the steps taken as I developed the painting.  When I take classes and workshops,  I try to capture the things I've learned and the fun I've had.  I love to get comments and anecdotes from you as well.  You can sign up to receive updates when I make a new post by clicking on the RSS feed ("Follow This Blog") or you can just add this URL to your "favorites".

Small Work
Here are a few of the plein air studies and small works I've done recently...  These recent paintings were painted around the areas where I live and are quick studies done for pleasure.  Sometimes I use these small pieces as a basis for larger studio work and sometimes, I just enjoy them as they are.  I'm targeting urban scenes lately, as I am always trying to stretch myself.

"The Orange Line"               "Behind The Dam"              "Mother & Child"            "L.A. Waterway"

Thanks to each of you for reading my newsletter and for cheering me on.  It's wonderful to hear from you now and then and I love seeing those of you who can come to exhibition receptions when I have then.

PLEASE FEEL FREE TO FORWARD THIS EMAIL OR COPY IT TO GIVE A HARD COPY TO ANY OF YOUR FRIENDS OR FAMILY WHO MIGHT ENJOY SEEING THE ART OR LEARNING ABOUT THE UPCOMING SHOWS.   I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE IT.

I hope that you all will enjoy your holidays and special moments to come.   A special thanks to those of you who have purchased my work.  I'm very honored by your support!
