Musings Of A Painter
by Marian Fortunati on 11/18/2009 5:56:40 PM
It's been quite a while since I've done any figurative painting work in front of a live model, so I wasn't really sure I would paint anything I was even moderately happy with. Happily, I had fun and managed to produce a small study that wasn't hideously monstrous. The model was really lovely and when I dropped in (late) on the uninstructed figure painting / drawing group at McGroarty Arts Center on Monday, I found out that this was her second 3-hour sitting. Oh well, my goal wasn't to produce a masterpiece, but to practice drawing and painting. I had brought a sketch pad because I wasn't sure what to expect, but found that most people were painting... oils, acrylics and watercolor... some were also drawing.

My friend, Lani Emanuel, had told me about the group led by Julie Snyder. I thought I'd give it a try since it sounded fun and it was pretty inexpensive. Frankly any chance to watch Julie as she paints is a real treat. She has a lovely sense of color and a very loose painterly style which I really like. The fact that I'm not tied down to a class but can drop in when I am able to fit it in is also a bonus.
It's a pretty good hop from my home, but I think that I may just go again one of these weeks. I had fun... I practiced... I got to see and talk with people I know and I met new people... and the study was decent... (-Even if my dainty ballerina does look as if she may have a bit of a beard...LOL)
