At the end of the day, I can say with satisfaction that I never would have been able to paint a person that resembled the person (... more like a stick figure..) when I first started my journey to practice and study art.
This is Danny after a three-hour attempt to paint him yesterday. I'd say the painting looks like the model and I have begun to feel better about practicing on the features like the eyes so they don't look so cartoony. My teacher is always patiently emphasizing the importance of getting the values right and while I'm sure I have a long way to go, I'm making some progress.
The best part is I enjoyed the journey!
So, here's to Danny!

This one doesn't grab me. The face may be Danny but the body looks to big or the head too small, maybe it is the Head forward pose or maybe Danny was at a higher elevation. Sorry that's the way it hit me. Love, Dad

You're right, Daddy.
There were many things I liked about this painting... I was able to get a likeness, I have lost and found edges in the appropriate places, and I finally got a feel for doing eyes and lips so they don't look so cartoony. Most of all I liked the way I have some warm and cool colors, I think, appropriately within the values of the face.
However, I do agree with you about the head vs body size. I tried to cut down on the body but it wasn't enough AND I ran out of time. So all in all although it's not a total win.. I'd say it tells me I'm making progress and I feel good about it.
Thankfully studies are for learning not for selling or showing.
