Wild and Windy in Towsley Canyon Park

Towsley Canyon Park

Oil on RayMar Board

The weather reporter said it would be sunny and a bit warmer. There was some threat of wind, but throwing caution to it, four of us took off for a paint out.

I had never met Silvina in person but had blogged with her. I met Laura at a California Art Club event a year ago and frequently blog with her. Sharon and I paint together en plein air fairly often. We thought we would try to meet somewhere in between where we all live. The suburbs in LA are spread out over miles and miles, but my old home near Granada Hills had some pretty areas so we tried to head out there. Sharon got there first and reported that there was not much to paint near O'Melvany Park where we had planned to meet as it had all burned in the recent Sayre firestorm.

Laura suggested plan B: Towsley Canyon Park, a bit further north. It was lovely. (Despite my brief getting lost episode and even briefer run in with the law... park ranger law... :o( .)

I enjoyed watching each of my friends while they painted. I always learn something when watching others. It did get windy later, so we had to take cover, but we all had fun.... especially going out to lunch after we packed up and swapping vacation and painting and blogging tales. Each of us painted a different view - mine looking north and west to the golden hills between the eucalyptus and a spindly sycamore and oaks. I got a nice block-in there and then had fun later at home adding all sorts of silly color. Whooppeeee!

It was a fun day and you came away with a very good painting. Hope we can do more soon.

Living in a Wyoming wind tunnel as I do (I actually have a Colorado address, but try telling that to the wind!), I had to chuckle at your post. I've spent many a plein air excursion chasing after aloft canvasses - hey, a little dirt makes it mixed media, right? Happy painting!
